Our Products & Mission
Our Farm Mission:
To grow real food for our family and local community using silvopasture.
What do we mean by "real food"?
Real food is tasty, nutrient-dense food grown or produced using simple, natural ingredients and with the absolute minimum of artificial inputs.
Why "for our family and local community"?
At Green Family Nut Farms we want to share with our friends and neighbors the real food that we grow & produce for our own family table.
What is "silvopasture"?
Silvopasture is a sustainable agroforestry production model that deliberately integrates grazing animals and trees to improve the health of both while minimizing the need for artificial inputs. Currently at Green Family Nut Farms, we run pastured poultry in tractors between rows of hazelnut trees. In our future orchard, our plan is to graze cattle and other ruminants between trees during establishment periods and when mature trees are out of season..

Inessa's Sourdough
Inessa's baked goods are fully fermented and made with organic, whole wheat floor that is ground fresh before baking. Click here to learn more about her bread, cookies and & other delicious, home-made products!

Pastured Poultry
Starting as soon as they have enough feathers to survive cool night temperatures, our birds are raised on pasture in our hazelnut orchard where their diet of non-GMO grain is supplemented by the bugs and worms they find when moved to fresh grass daily. Find out how Green Family Nut Farms turns day-old chicks into tasty, nutrient-dense chicken for your table and ours by clicking here.

Pressed Oils
Our naturally refined seed & nut oils use only mechanical extraction methods instead of the solvent extraction methods commonly used to produce most commercially available oils. Click here to learn more about the health benefits of cold-pressed oils, the important differences between naturally refined and chemically refined oils and more detail about Green Family Nut Farms' oil products.

Complimentary Products
Green Family Nut Farms intentionally experiments with growing different crops and raising a variety of livestock that hopefully complement our perennial hazelnut and chestnut enterprises without competing for the farm’s limited resources (e.g. labor, water, grass and compost). Some experimental enterprises like pastured poultry and pressed oils then graduate to become standalone product segments while many serve a more limited, temporary or occasional purpose on the farm. Current experiments include black raspberries, natural dog treats and garlic. To read more about these and future experimental products like compost tea and inoculated biochar, click here.

Hazelnuts
At Green Family Nut Farms we are three years into a multi-decade effort to produce heart-healthy hazelnuts for enjoyment by your family and ours. Click here to read more about how we are using our experimental orchard in Millersburg, IN to evaluate different hybrid hazelnut genetics, growing methods and best practices that we will then scale up on our future farm and orchard. Also included on our Hazelnut Products page is helpful information about the health benefits of hazelnuts and more about the potential to utilize the entire tree to produce various value-add products such as hazelnut oil, hazelnut flour, biodiesel, biochar and smoke wood.

Chestnuts
Our long-term vision at Green Family Nut Farms includes the establishment of a 20+ acre orchard of hybrid chestnut trees on our future property in the Fruit Belt of southwest Michigan. Click here to learn more about why we are so interested in growing this unique perennial crop and how you can easily incorporate this healthy, alternative source of starch from the "bread tree" in your family's meal preparation.
